LASIK Surgery Information

LASIK Surgery Details

LASIK is a surgical procedure performed on the cornea of the eye that is intended to decrease a person’s dependence of contact lenses and glasses.  LASIK stands for “Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis” which in short refers to the surgical procedure of creating and pulling back a flap on the top layer of the cornea, exposing the middle layer, and then using an excimer laser to reshape the underlying cornea.  Successful results of the surgery will allow patients to better focus light on the retina and eliminate refractive errors such as nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism.  The top layers of the cornea are then put back in place and continue their use as a protective flap to the cornea.

The professional staff at Brooks Eye Center is knowledgeable with LASIK surgery procedures, and is also an authority for a non-surgical LASIK alternative called Ortho-K that creates comparative and favorable results all while sleeping.  For more information about Ortho-K or LASIK, contact a member of the Brooks Eye Center staff.
